Peggy
We rescued Peggy from Hamilton Animal Control. Sweet Peggy had been hit by a car, so Animal Control took her to the vet. She has a fractured tail that is so severely broken that it needs to be amputated. Peggy is otherwise healthy and very friendly. Despite what she’s going through, Peggy is still sweet and happily greeting everyone who comes near her cage at the vet clinic and flopping over for rubs. She looks a bit odd in her photos because she is stoned on pain medication. She’s a happy high kitty!
We’ll keep you updated on how Peggy’s surgery goes.
OCTOBER 19 UPDATE
Peggy wasn’t able to have her tail amputated today. There was too much swelling in the area and our vets were concerned that if they tried to take the tail off at the break spot, that she may end up incontinent because the break is so close to her bum. Since she had already been prepped for surgery, our vets spayed Peggy and sent her to her foster home on anti-inflammatory and pain medication. She will be back to the vet in a week to see if the swelling has gone down and she can have the second surgery. She’s doing really well in her foster home so far!
November 8 UPDATE
At Peggy’s most recent vet visit, it was discovered that she has feeling in her tail! Our vets advised that it is possible that she will regain almost all her tail function with time and she won’t have to have her tail amputated. Pretty good news! Our vets have told us to give Peggy about six months to see how things progress and by then we should know whether or not things have healed enough that she can keep her tail.
And even better news…Peggy’s foster family has decided that they want to be her forever family! We’re so happy Peggy is home for good with people who love her and will care for her for the rest of her days…
