Doodle (Frank)
*Doodle Frank found his forever home with lovely people! *
We rescued Frank from Hamilton Animal Control where he found himself as a stray. The shelter named him Doodle. Because we don’t know how Frank became a stray, he needs a fenced yard and to be on a leash at all times on walks. He very much likes to follow his nose!
Frank loves people and he is such a happy boy! When you come home you will find him waiting with a big smile, wagging his tail. Frank’s favourite things are going for walks, treats and getting belly rubs. He would love to follow you around like a shadow everywhere you go and then chill out on his big dog bed, where you can feel free to join him for a snuggle.
When Frank was first rescued he had a few issues:
1. Manners – this issue has been resolved and Frank is now a good citizen. Frank is either hard of hearing / hard of
listening, or both, so he has been taught hand commands that he understands and obeys (most of the time!).
2. Food anxiety – Because Frank had a period of homelessness, he can be a little anxious about food, but he is very
smart and he learns boundaries very easily. Frank gets meals and snacks using “affection first feeding” and is
doing great with his food anxiety. Frank does not try to steal food off the coffee table or other places it may get
left momentarily, even if you walk away from it. Frank understands that he should go to his bed when the humans are
eating.
3. Frank had a big lump on his belly when he was rescued. He had that lump removed as well as some smaller lumps that
showed up after the initial lump. The lumps that were removed contained mast cell tumors, but luckily the vet was
able to completely remove any affected tissue and Frank has now been given a clean bill of health, confirmed by x-
ray and ultrasound. Frank has been lump-free and healthy for 10+ months, which is why he is now available for
adoption. Frank takes an anti-histamine twice a day as a precaution, and keeping an eye on this is easy, given how
much Frank loves to be petted and get belly rubs, especially first thing in the morning while still snuggling in
his bed like a little messy-headed bear. Cute!
Frank has experience visiting sick / elderly people both in hospital and long-term care, where he is a perfect prince with everyone, but especially with people who appreciate a little furry visitor. Frank also likes children and has had lots of fun interacting with children ages 3-14. Children, of course, should always be educated on how to treat a pet respectfully and be reminded that Frank may be interested in stealing their food if it is at nose height. Frank is very well-behaved for the groomers for hair and nail cutting and will let his foster “mom” give him a haircut with clippers as well – he is currently sporting a very handsome “fauxhawk”.
At first Frank did not understand the concept of toys, but now he loves to drag around his stuffies and squeakers. Frank loves to play with his ball (not necessarily fetch) and play chase around the yard. Frank has a good level of energy for play and rest. He loves to lie on his big dog bed in front of the fire and will run to his bed basket for a nap if you’re not around to play with him. Frank also loves to go in the car and is very good for car trips.
Frank would probably love to be an only-dog, but he is very nice with other dogs that he meets on walks, even in packs. He has never shown any aggression when meeting other dogs, even when much larger than him and rambunctious. He is respectful of his foster house-mate, who is a senior blind dachshund, now that he knows he is not allowed to steal his food! At first, he ignored the cat at the veterinary clinic, but over time became a little more curious than the cat liked, so a home with a cat may not be the best choice. He is certainly interested in hunting small creatures such as squirrels and chipmunks, so if you like a rodent free yard, Frank is your man!
You will not find a happier, more loving and hopeful dog than Frank. If you are the special person or family that can establish boundaries and give Frank all of the love he deserves, he’d sure like to meet you and snuggle up. Please consider adding Frank to your family! He comes fully “accessorized” with leash, harness, collar, coat and bed.
Please adopt Frank!
