Jake
* Jake and Ruban found their forever home with lovely people! *
Ruban (now Bear) and Jake (now Baggy) have their own Instagram account in their forever home! Follow their adventures @baggyandbear on Instagram!
We rescued Jake from Hamilton Animal Control. He ended up at HAC as a stray who was never claimed.
Jake is shy, but very sweet. He was not happy about being in the shelter and would cower in the corner of his cage all day. He did appreciate head pats and chin scratches from the staff though, so they knew he wasn’t a feral cat. Just extremely shy and scared of his surroundings.
We were happy to rescue Jake when a foster home opened up for him. He went straight from HAC to the vet where he had a check-up, neuter, minor dental surgery, and blood testing. Unfortunately, Jake tested positive for FIV. This isn’t the horrible affliction it has been made out to be in past years. Yes, the virus can affect his immune system down the road, but most FIV positive cats live healthy, long and happy lives. And despite past beliefs, they can live with other cats who are not FIV positive.
“Jake is a gentle giant! He was pretty terrified of the world when he first arrived with us but has slowly been coming out of his shell and coming out of his carrier for lots of snuggles and brushing. He loves being pet and is super affectionate and gentle. He is still easily scared but I think he’s gaining his confidence. He’s turning into a really sweet cat and we’ve enjoyed bonding with him to restore his faith in friendly humans.
He is a sweetheart!”
In mid-June, Jake was introduced to another FIV positive cat named Ruban, who had been living in another foster home. Both cats seemed lonely for cat companionship, so we took the chance that they would get along, and they did! Jake came out of his shell pretty quickly once he had a friend to chum around with. This is what their foster mom has to say about Ruban and Jake together:
“Ruban and Jake are extremely loving and social cats. They were both a little bored on their own in separate foster homes so we are thrilled they have been brought together. They have quickly become little buddies. They tussle about, eat well together and love to follow around their humans for snuggles. If you pet one, be prepared to also pet the other! They are both playful, but low maintenance cats who spend a fair amount of time lounging about in their favorite spots. Not picky at all about food and are ok with sharing one litter box. Let’s keep these happy and perfectly healthy guys together in a forever home!”
Jake and Ruban are ready to find a kind peson who will see past their FIV status and give them the forever home they so deserve!
Please adopt Jake (and Ruban!)!
Jake and Ruban’s foster family sent these hilarious photos of the boys crashing their card game.
Jake says “No cards for you! Pet meeeeee!!!” And Ruban thought 52 Pick Up was a much better game than the one that was going on…
