April
* April, Rocky and Rory found their forever home together with a wonderful person! *
April came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. She had given birth to one kitten on the finder’s porch earlier in the day. HAC staff made her comfortable, and kept a close eye on her thinking she would have more, but April only had one baby.
A couple of days later, a single kitten was found alone in the attic of a home. There was no mother to be found, so the homeowner brought the kitten to HAC. Staff members introduced this kitten to April, and she took to him like he was her own. He is a little bit older than April’s own kitten, but our vets advise that this shouldn’t be an issue. Especially since April only had the one baby to feed and care for. She was pretty happy to have the little orphan as part of her wee family!
April is a fantastic mom, and she did a great job raising her babies Rocky and Rory.
April is very friendly. She has a loud purr and constant happy feet for everyone she meets! She gets along well with the other cats in her foster home.
Here’s a report from April’s foster mom:
“April is a such a sweet, dainty little lady that is ready to enjoy all the love and affection a new family can shower on her. She is really just a baby herself who had a baby and then adopted another. She has been a fantastic mama, always nurturing, loving, available, and protective when she felt the need to be. She wrapped her loving paw around little Rory and took him in as one of her own which is such an amazing act. You know, from reading her story, that this wee lass was alone, outside, giving birth when she was rescued but what wasn’t obvious (at the time) is that she is lovely and must have been in someone’s care prior to ending up how she did.
Her harsh time hasn’t diminished her spirit though and she will make a wonderful life long companion.
She can be a bit shy but that doesn’t keep her away too long. She is just a little nervous about strange places and gets a little sad. When she went to the vet for her spay operation, she was great for the car ride but once there, she wrapped herself up, tucked her head in my arm, and looked like a little squirrel ready to hibernate. Perhaps she thought I wasn’t coming back for her but when I did she was pleased to see me, until she had to go back to the vet for vaccines and check up and she did the same thing. She is just going to need a little reassurance that she is loved and she’ll never been abandoned again.
Once she’s settled, she’s a total darling. Being female :o) she does love on her own terms, meaning that she can be picked up and cuddled but would rather seek you out for affection and pets. This is due in part to the fact that she is still a little distracted with mom duties and has a job to do since her little rascals still need parenting. So with still tending to them, she is up quite a bit following them around and still nurses when they and she feels inclined. However, when everyone is sleepy you will see a very different April as she unleashes her inner kitten. She is still very young and likes to jump, scratch the cardboard post, play with a feather boa wand and will happily engage with you and enjoy herself immensely. But, if the kittens wake up and invade, she will take a back seat and let them have all the fun. This will of course change when the kittens are older or she is with another older feline. She loves the company of the resident cats in the home and happily seeks them out to cuddle and snooze with and will jump up and lay beside foster mom if the kittens are asleep and tended to. April is a calm, relaxed, chill, feline who goes with the flow. She does however, like to chatter. Whether or not she likes the sound of her own voice or that she is giving commands and comments to her kittens and the other cats, she does meow. Her meows range from a slight chirp that get louder as she feels they need to be with sometimes sounding like she did when she was in heat. She doesn’t walk around doing this just because and you can normally figure out pretty quickly if it’s because she’s hungry, she wants you to feed her babies, she wants the littler box cleaned, she wants love and pets, or she’s trying to convey something to her kittens that she either wants them to do or not do.
She is funny, graceful, playful, gentle, patient, loving, and ready to go home. She loves to stretch fully out on the bed with her legs behind her and she does this cute thing when she walks and stretches, she lifts one of her back legs up parallel to the ground and stretches her body out long while holding her leg in the air, then she switches legs….it’s like a yoga pose of sorts and now Rocky has picked up the same thing, it’s hilarious as he normally yawns as he’s doing it…like mama, like babe.
She will do best with company of another feline close in age to her or another animal in the home to snuggle with. She is very low maintenance and has so much hidden love to give.”
