Matilda
*Matilda’s foster home became her forever home! Yay! *
Matilda came into Burlington Animal Services as a stray. It was pretty obvious on her arrival that she was suffering from some serious neglect. She was severely matted, suffering from dry eye and seemed to be blind, the insides of her ears were infected, and her teeth were rotten. Despite how awful she must have been feeling, Matilda had a smile and waggy tail for everyone she met.
Burlington Animal Services got her into the vet and started on several eye medications, which helped somewhat. They also had her blood tested and had her in for a dental cleaning.
Because of her health issues, Matilda didn’t fall into the parameters of the shelter’s adoption program, so they reached out to us for help. We were happy to take Matilda in, and took her straight to Cathryn at Dundas Pet Valu for a quick shave down. Even though Cathryn has retired her grooming business, she was kind enough to volunteer her time to make Matilda feel (and smell!) better! Thanks Cathryn! Matilda is such a sweet dog, she wagged her tail through the whole grooming! So cute…
Matilda had several vet visits after her rescue. Her blood results showed that she possibly has a condition called thrombocytopenia. Basically it’s a disorder of the blood that causes very low platelet levels and it can lead to some serious health issues if gone untreated. Matilda responded very well to the medications prescribed to her, and she even re-gained some of her sight! She will likely have to be on medication for the rest of her days, but despite that, her foster family decided that she should stay forever! We’re so happy Matilda has a loving forever family to care for her now, and that she’ll never have to re-live the pain and heartbreak of being neglected, ever again.
Yay Matilda!
