Milo
Poor Milo came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray, suffering from an eye infection. We rescued Milo from HAC and took him straight to the vet. Turns out, Milo’s eye wasn’t the only issue going on. The inside of Milo’s mouth was abscessed and full of puss and infection. This must have been so uncomfortable for so long! Poor bunny…
We took Milo to see Dr. Stubbs at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, and she debrided all the abscesses she could that first day, and put Milo on a series of medications for his eye and mouth. He then went to his foster home in hopes that the medication would alleviate his discomfort and get him healthy enough for surgery. Milo had a tough time eating in his foster home and wasn’t thriving the way we had hoped. But, he remained a sweet guy with his foster family, and they gave him lots of attention and affection. He went back to the vet for surgery to try to debride all the abscesses and remove all the broken teeth, but Milo’s mouth was even worse than first expected. Dr. Stubbs did her best to fix up what she could, but she let us know that Milo’s prognoses was not good. The infection in his mouth had gone deep into the bone, and aside from removing his lower jaw bone (which is not a pleasant way for a rabbit to live) there would be nothing we could do to stop the abscesses and infection from returning. We didn’t know it at the time, but Milo’s condition was already too far gone even before his rescue for us to make him better.
After heavy hearted discussions with Dr. Stubbs and his foster home, the painful decision was made to let Milo go to end his suffering.
Milo, we’re so sorry someone abandoned you and allowed you to be in such horrible shape. You were a friendly and gentle bunny, despite all you had been put through.
We’re glad we could show you lots of love during your short time with us, and we hope you know that we tried our best to heal your broken body, and your heart.
We will never forget your sweet face…
