Mindy
* Mindy found her forever home with a wonderful person! Yay! *
Scarlett and Mindy were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Control when their owner was no longer able to care for them.
These two girls were sweet as pie! Always rubbing, non-stop purring and looking for attention.
Mindy was in wonderful health for a cat her age, but when we got her to the vet, it was noted that she needed to have a few teeth extracted. When she was anesthetized for her dental surgery, the vet got a good look inside her mouth and things were a lot worse than first thought. Mindy was suffering from severe periodontal disease and those “few teeth” ended up being almost all her teeth! The vet ended up removing 24 teeth! Poor girl must have been in so much pain! She’s feeling much better now though, thanks to the kindness and care showed to her by her foster mom.
When we rescued her, Scarlett was already showing some of the signs of being a senior, declawed cat. She had muscle loss in her back end, but could still get around fine.
Scarlett’s blood work showed the beginnings of kidney and thyroid disease. Our vets started her on medication and special food, and she did very well on both.
After a year in foster care, Scarlett’s age and health issues caught up with her. Her health took a turn for the worst, and she quickly went downhill. After exhausting all treatment options, our vets advised that Scarlett was not going to get better, and the best thing for her would be to let her go. Scarlett’s foster mom brought her to the vet one last time, and she held Scarlett close while saying goodbye.
We are heartbroken for Scarlett’s foster mom, and for Scarlett’s “sister” Mindy. Mindy is adjusting to being a solo kitty though, and we hope she can find her forever home soon.
Here’s a note from Mindy’s foster home:
“Mindy is wonderful girl, you will grow to love her dearly.
Mindy loves to run and play and lie on or near you. She also loves to lick your hands. Her favourite toys are springs and bedtime undercover play which she awaits anytime. Mindy has only 2 tiny teeth remaining and she has done a fantastic job of adjusting to this.
Mindy is a very smart kitty who likes to sleep in the sun rays and on your bed. She likes to be brushed. She responds to her name and other commands as well as voice tone cues. Mindy is a friendly greeter to everyone, but she can be skittish at times. She loves kisses and pets and your face on hers, and she is a super loving cat.
Mindy would like a home with adults only.”
