Elliot
We’re so sad to report that we had to let little Elliot go.
Here’s a note from his foster mom:
“Bad news today. My sweet little Elliot passed away. His vets did everything they could for him but he has been getting sicker and he was starting to suffer. I could see that he was so tired. Today we made the decision to end his suffering. I was there with him and although it was hard I was so grateful to have him snuggle into my arms one last time.
This will be difficult for Zelda and Ezra so I’m going to focus on giving them all the love, attention, and wet food they can handle!”
Rest in peace little Elliot. We’ll never forget you…
We rescued Zelda, Fitz, Hemingway, Elliot and Ezra from Hamilton Animal Services.
Zelda was found pregnant and dumped in a conservation area. She was brought to HAS, and on March 30th, she gave birth to three healthy babies! She was very frightened at the shelter, so a very kind staff member took her home temporarily to alleviate her stress and so she could look after her babies in peace. Shortly after, an orphaned kitten of similar age to Zelda’s kittens showed up at HAS. The staff member introduced this new kitten to Zelda, and she took the baby in like one of her own! So sweet!
To save Zelda the stress of going back to the shelter, the HAS staff member was kind enough to deliver Zelda and her little ones to a Ladybird foster home and the family has done wonderfully there.
Zelda is shy, but she constantly purrs when given attention. She has come out of her shell quite a lot since coming into our care, thanks to lots of love from her foster family. And look how much those babies have grown! So adorable.
Zelda has a spay appointment coming up soon, and she’ll be available for adoption shortly after. Fitz and Hemingway are have found their forever home! Yay!
Elliot and Ezra both have heart murmurs, so they’ll be staying in foster care a bit longer so we’re able to sort out exactly what they’ll need long term.
Here’s a note from their foster mom from May 29th:
“Elliot and Ezra update! The kittens went to the vet a few days ago for their check ups and vaccinations and their vet found that both Elliot and Ezra have heart murmurs (aka hole in the heart).
Elliot’s is not too bad and his vet suspects it may close on its own in time. If not, he may need medication in future. Due to his heart defect Elliot is smaller than his siblings with short little legs. He almost looks like he has dwarfism. He’s also very relaxed and not nearly as active as his brothers. He’s very happy to spend all day snuggling and if you put him on your lap he will stay for hours! His bone structure is a little wider than your average cat so his eyes are a little stretched, which causes some leakage, very similar to a Persian.
Unfortunately Ezra’s murmur is quite bad. Surprisingly, you wouldn’t know it at all! He’s a gorgeous cat and he’s quite active, although not as active as his healthy brothers, Fitz and Hemingway. He just appreciates nap time more than your average 8 week old. Ezra’s hole probably will not close but this doesn’t mean he can’t still live a full life. He will likely need medication in future.
Elliot and Ezra are going to stay with us awhile longer so their vet can get more information on what’s going on inside.
When they are ready to go up for adoption they will be adoptable together. Elliot and Ezra have grown to depend on each other and separating them would be very difficult for them.
Elliot is so uniquely adorable and Ezra is so stunningly beautiful, they’re very special boys!”
June 12/18 UPDATE
Elliot needs your well wishes. We don’t know exactly what is up with this little guy, but as well as his developmental delays, he’s not feeling himself today.
Elliot has another vet appointment tomorrow, and hopefully we can get him feeling better. This wee kitten will likely be a special needs cat in some form…though we’re still not sure in what capacity. He has a few of the same traits as @iamlilbub but not as severe.
Feel better Elliot! We’re rooting for you!
Here’s a note from Elliot’s foster home:
“A little update on Elliot!
The good news is his heart is no longer showing signs of a murmur, which means the hole may have already closed!
The not so good news is that he is not developing like a normal 10 week old kitten. He is very small and while Ezra is getting bigger every day he doesn’t seem to be growing at all. His favourite pastime is sleeping and he rarely plays. His favourite thing to do is cuddle up on a warm lap and nap the day away. He’s very short with a plump belly and wide facial features. All these characteristics make him the most adorable kitten ever! But they’re also very concerning.
He has been given strong dewormers to see if that will improve anything and we have a follow up appointment next week to determine next steps to figure out what’s going on with this cute boy.
Send all your positive vibes Elliot’s way!“
