Camilla
Sweet Camilla came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She was sick with an upper respiratory virus, covered in fleas, her nails were overgrown and she was very wobbly on her feet. Shelter staff sent her to the vet and they started her on medication. Camilla started to feel a bit better and was less shaky after a few days of treatment.
We rescued Camilla from HAS and took her to our vet. The vet ran a blood test, and it turns out Camilla has stage two kidney disease. We started her on a special diet for that, and some more medication to try to help clear up her snotty nose.
Camilla settled in at her foster home and loved all the attention. She was such a sweet little lady! Her loud purr, head bonks and “makin’ biscuits” feet told us that she was happy, despite her illness. She loved her foster family so much, she wrapped herself around their necks and shoulders like a scarf! Such a lovely kitty.
Camilla was back and forth to the vet many times since her rescue. The upper respiratory issues didn’t seem to want to go away permanently, and her blood levels were up and down. She was still her purry happy self through all this, but because of her ongoing health issues, we decided she should remain in our care and become a permanent resident. It didn’t seem that she would get well enough to be made available for adoption, and we didn’t want to put her through the stress of yet another big change in her life that may set her back. Camilla’s foster family were more than willing to be her “forever” foster family, and we were very thankful for that.
The next few weeks had Camilla in and out of the vet several times. Near the end of July, Camilla’s behaviour told her foster family that she was nearing the end. They brought Camilla to the vet and surrounded her with love and kisses as they said goodbye.
We want to thank Camilla’s foster family for caring for her. We’re sad that her previous owner abandoned her when she needed them most, but we’re happy she could know love beyond love with her foster family, even if it was just for a short time.
Rest well Camilla. We’ll never forget your sweet face…
