Dudley
* Dudley was adopted by awesome people! *
Dudley came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He had a large open wound on the side of his face that HAS staff treated. Because he was an un-neutered, tom cat looking guy with a wound, HAS staff did a “SNAP” test to see if he was FIV positive. He wasn’t. But, he was Feline Leukemia positive. Not a great diagnoses, but he’s doing okay!
We took Dudley to the vet where he was neutered and where he had a more comprehensive test that confirmed the FeLV. He did great for his surgery, and he recovered fantastically in his foster home. Here’s a note from Dudley’s foster home:
“Are you wanting to never use a laptop or read a book again?
Do you have nothing to do all day and can give snuggles ALL THE TIME!!!?
Do you want a cat who will literally lay at your feet and hug your legs? Or bear hug you until you snuggle him? Or suffocate you with head butts?
Are you alright with being completely covered In cat hair the moment you sit down?
If you’ve answered yes, then Dudders is the cat for you!
Dudley is the most affectionate cat in the world. The moment you sit down, he is on your lap for snuggles. He falls asleep in your arms like a baby. He lays on the floor and hugs your feet. If you had nothing better to do than to snuggle him 24/7, he would be in heaven.
When we first got him, he was sad, skinny and sick and hid behind the couch. Now he is healthy and plumping up, he is a cuddle machine. He is beginning to play a little, and loves the laser light. He is still a little skittish with dangling toys, but will bat a toy mouse all over the house. He waits at the window in his bed and greets us when we get home. He is ok with kids, but probably because that means more snuggles.
So far, his feline leukemia diagnosis has not been a problem. He is very healthy, very active and very loving. One word of caution, when he happily starts whipping his tail, watch out, it is pretty powerful!
Dudley needs someone who will give him all the snuggles he wants and will take care of him if he gets sick. The amount of love he has is amazing, and there is no doubt he will find someone who can give him that love back.”
To note: FeLV shouldn’t be a death sentence. Shelters all over the world still euthanize cats who are infected with this virus. With proper vet care, good quality food and lots of love from their owners, FeLV cats can live long, happy lives. Just look at our Oliver! Oliver is the first cat Ladybird rescued back in 2010. He is FeLV positive, and he’s still living the spoiled life in his forever home to this day!
