Belinda
* Belinda, Blossom and Butter Bean found their forever home with a wonderful family! *
Blossom, Belinda and Bob were surrendered to a shelter in Quebec by their owner. We were happy to rescue this trio, with help from Freedom Driver Animal Transport volunteers, who brought them to us all the way from Quebec. Thank you Freedom Drivers!
Unfortunately, Blossom, Belinda and Bob were housed together in their previous home, and it turned out Belinda was pregnant. We’re not sure if Bob is the father, or if there was another male guinea pig in the picture before this trio came to us.
We separated Bob from the girls and placed him in an enclosure right next to theirs so he still had company.
On September 24th, 2018, Belinda gave birth to Bo, Blueberry and Butter Bean. When the babies were three weeks old, we got vet confirmation of their genders, and during the next week, we introduced Bob to Bo and Blueberry several times to see if they would be able to live together. Introductions went great, and now Bob, Blueberry and Bo are happily living together, and Blossom, Belinda and Butter Bean are ready to find their forever home too! We’re asking that they be adopted as a trio.
Belinda, Blossom and Butter Bean are happy piggies. They do a lot of “popcorning” in their enclosure and they enjoy each other’s company. They are being fed Oxbow brand pellets, and a combination of alfalfa and timothy hay, which they like very much. Every morning, they are given a treat of different types of fruit and vegetable. Some of their favourites are carrot, romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery and kale.
They have fun exploring their surroundings when they’re out for “floor time.” We’re hoping they can find a forever home where their enclosure is no smaller than the one they’re in now. (see photo below).
Wondering if a guinea pig is the right pet for you? Check out this website for some of the basics of guinea pig care. They’re not the simple “starter pet” they’ve been made out to be for many years…
Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
