Donny Calzone
* Donny Calzone found his forever home with a lovely family! *
Donny Calzone came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, and was not claimed by his owner.
Donny is just the sweetest big lug of a dog! Friendly to everyone he meets, and very happy to get some pettin’ from anyone who will give it…
When we rescued him, Donny had some health issues that need to be addressed. His ears were infected, his back end was infected, many of his teeth were rotted, and he needed to be neutered.
Thankfully, Donny C is in the capable hands of Dr. Stubbs from Spencer Creek Animal Hospital. She is experienced with the breed and their many issues. On July 27th, Donny had dental surgery, he was neutered, and he had part of his tail amputated (because of the severity of infection in that area) and he did great. He recovered really well in his foster home and he is now ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from Donny C’s foster mom:
“Donny C is a very quiet, low energy English Bulldog who is estimated to be about 6-7years old. He has recovered very well from his dental surgery where all but 3 teeth had to be extracted, also he needed a portion of his tail amputated as it was malformed and was causing an infection. Much of his day is spent snoring and napping. He also loves to be hugged and petted. Donny is good with other dogs but prefers the attention of people. Even with limited teeth he loves chew toys and balls but he can be a bit possessive if another dog comes to take them away. We think he would be happiest in a home where he can be the only dog so he can get all the attention, and a home without cats would be best.
Donny requires limited exercise but does enjoys short, slow walks in the park and has been wonderful to all people, small children and dogs he has encountered. As Donny loves being near people he would do best with a family that likes to stay close to home and the house is rarely empty. He does not like to be crated but due to his low-key personality he is fine to be left alone free in the house. He is not destructive and is fully house trained. Donny also travels well and would be happy to be part of family trips.
The Bulldog breed does require some maintenance. Donny currently is eating a prescription diet to help with joint and skin health and should be continued on this diet upon adoption. His new family should be familiar with their requirements and that veterinary cost maybe higher than other breeds of dogs. Donny will likely adjust very well to any home with his loving personality and easy-going attitude as long as they don’t mind the snoring!”
January 2021 UPDATE
From Donny’s adopter:
“Donny Calzone was loyal companion and a part of the family from the minute he arrived. He loves playing soccer even though it’s getting to be too much for him. He’s a 75 lb lap dog that insists on sitting on all of us. He didn’t bark for the first year but he is now very chatty and let’s you know when he wants to talk. And those eyes can tell you exactly what he is thinking! He cannot be alone. He’ll sit and stare at the door for hours waiting for his dad to get home and he follows us everywhere. Not a minute without Donny by our side. He’s a regular visitor of Dr. Stubbs and looks forward to his almost monthly visits. We cannot thank Ladybird enough for allowing him to be a part of our family!”
