Alpacino
* We’re thrilled to report that Alpacino has found his forever home! *
Alpacino was brought into Hamilton Animal Services when he was found as a stray. This poor guy was suffering from strange lesions on his face. We took Alpacino to Guelph Animal Hospital where he was neutered, viral tested (FIV and FeLV negative!) and a biopsy of the lesion was sent out for testing. The first results were somewhat strange, so another biopsy was taken and sent out for a second opinion. It took some time to get the results, and then we had to wait for a second opinion on the second opinion! Turns out, this type of lesion is not something that the folks at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) have ever seen before. The lesion was a type of cancer, but it was one that is normally associated with cancer in other parts of the cats’ body. Several lymph node aspirations were done to look for cancer in other areas, but thankfully none was found.
After discussions with OVC and the vets at Guelph Animal Hospital who were looking after Alpacino, it was decided that the best course of action was radiation, and he had his two weeks of radiation treatment in December 2018. Alpacino did really well for his treatment, and his foster mom told us that he seemed just like his usual, purring, playful self afterward. Such a good cat!
Follow up reports showed that the radiation worked. The cancer was gone! Yay!
During his many visits and stays at OVC, two vet students who are a couple fell very much in love with Alpacino, and asked us if they could adopt him. We were thrilled! After everything he had been through, Alpacino found a fantastic forever home with people who will love and spoil him, and be sure that any further medical needs will be looked after.
Way to go Alpacino!
Big thanks to Guelph Animal Hospital, OVC, Alpacino’s foster mom and his wonderful adopters for helping him through his journey to being cancer free, and to a forever home! And thank you to everyone who donated to Alpacino’s care. We couldn’t have gotten him the treatment he needed without you!
