Bruno
* Bruno found his forever home with a lovely person! *
Bruno was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. This poor cat had been suffering for quite some time. His mouth and teeth were a mess, he was infested with fleas, he had an awful case of ear mites, his skin was scabby, and he was extremely dirty. The horrible state of his fur was likely caused by the fact that his mouth hurt too much for him to groom himself. Shelter staff did a SNAP test and it came back positive for FIV. Not a shock really, considering the condition he was in.
We took Bruno straight from the shelter to the vet. He received a slow-release pain shot, and they took a blood sample. Blood results confirmed that Bruno is FIV positive, and that he had a blood parasite. Bruno was put on medication, and sent to his foster home to get healthy enough to have the dental surgery he so desperately needed. After a few months, he had the surgery, and every last tooth had to come out because of the horrible condition of his mouth. He healed up well, and he’s now ready to find his forever home!
FIV isn’t the horrible affliction it has been made out to be in past years. The virus can affect a cat’s immune system down the road, but most FIV positive cats live healthy, long and happy lives. And despite past beliefs, they can live with other cats who are not FIV positive.
“Mister Bruno is one of the sweetest cats I have ever met.
When he arrived, he was an absolute mess. He had fleas, he had a parasite, he had ringworm and he was filthy. He was covered in red clay and his tail was so dirty it felt like there was no fur on it at all. His teeth were horrific so he was drooling and there was blood in his saliva. His mouth must have been terribly sore and likely made it difficult to groom himself. But given all of that and how badly he must have felt, he insisted I pet him. The poor guy was desperate to be touched, to be cuddled and the best I could do was to use wet wipes to pet him. He needed a bath … big time!
The folks at Village Cat Clinic in Ancaster worked some magic and with a bit of sedation, gave him a much needed wash. Even still, his white fur was a yellowish-orange and he was covered in sores. He developed bald spots on his neck and back from the ringworm and required another trip to the vet.
Bruno had many visits to the cat clinics and, thankfully, he is pretty good in the car. I don’t think he liked it much but in typical Bruno style, he made the best of an uncomfortable situation.
The final visit was to have his dental surgery and in the end, they had to remove all of his teeth. It took him a few days to learn how to eat without teeth but it didn’t take long before he was heartily enjoying his food without the pain he must have lived with for some time. His diet has expanded to include kibble, first with a bit of water and now without, and he loves it!
Bruno has been reborn! Now that he is feeling better, he has become more playful. He chases, runs, plays with the string on the window blinds and is a much healthier, happier kitty. Considering he was gentle and loving even when he was so unwell, I can only imagine how wonderful a companion he will be for someone. He is a gem!”
Bruno hasn’t been around dogs or other cats since he’s been with us, but with slow and proper introductions, we think he would likely be okay with either. He’s a pretty easy going guy!
Please adopt Bruno!
