Name: Nova Demydchuk
Age & grade: 11, grade 6
Where I’m from: Hamilton, Ontario
Hobbies and interests: I LOVE animals, I take horseback riding lessons every week and I love to add to and take care of my collection of animals (that’s not really a hobby, but it’s an interest I guess)!
What I did to become a youth ambassador: I made homemade dog and cat treats and sold them at my school to raise money for ladybird.
Why I think animal welfare is a worthy cause: I think animals have rights and deserve a great life. They have the rights to be loved and cared for, and should definitely not be neglected and abused. It is sick that people would do such a thing to something so innocent.
I have noticed that there are more abandoned/abused/neglected cats, more than any other animal. From way before I was born my mom has been rescuing cats. She still finds needy cats to this very day. She is a “cat magnet”, and it seems like every where she goes she runs into helpless cats. The funny part is, now that seems like it is rubbing off on me and my sister. For example, last year on Halloween, my mom took me and my sister trick or treating. We found a tiny kitten all alone trapped in a fence around an abandoned lot. It took us a while but we caught the kitten and took care of it. We named her Pumpkin and she currently lives with my grandma. 🙂
