We love Westmount PAW!
People for Animal Welfare (PAW) is a student-led group at Westmount Secondary School. The group was founded at the beginning of the 2015 school year by Abby Hill. Hassan Elaghoury and Mitchell Kennedy have been crucial members since the group’s beginning.
At the beginning of second semester, PAW implemented an animal sponsorship program at Westmount Secondary School. Participating fifth period classes were assigned to an animal in foster care with Ladybird Animal Sanctuary. These classes were responsible for “sponsoring” their animal, by way of bi-weekly donations. They were encouraged to follow their sponsor animal’s story on Ladybird’s website, and when they reached the $50 mark, students were also given the opportunity to name an animal!
Throughout the semester, PAW was responsible for keeping track of the money raised by each class, and documenting their progress for the student body to view on a public display in the Learning Commons. PAW expressed their gratitude to the group that contributed the most money with the food and beverages of their choice at the end of the school year.
PAW was touched by the outpouring of support from the school community, and they were so excited to present Ladybird Animal Sanctuary with a cheque in the amount of $1369.32. A big thank you to everyone who helped!
Keep an eye out for student-named rescued animals coming soon!
Thank you so much Abby, Hassan, Mitchell and everyone who supported Westmount PAW in raising these much needed funds for Ladybird. You’re all awesome!
